I took some time from my work on ‘All My Friends Said He Was a Jerk, But I Married Him Anyway’ to visit my daughter in Santa Barbara and spend time visiting the elephant seals near San Simeon. The elephant seal migrates thousands of miles twice a year for birthing, breeding, molting and rest. Piedras Blancas is a great place to view these remarkable creatures during their time onshore. There appeared to be several thousand resting by the shore. If you think you might want to visit then go to the website of the Friends of the Elephant Seal. It is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating people about elephant seals and other marine life and teaching stewardship for the ocean off the central coast of California.
